SPA Netball season off to a soaring start!
The 2018/2019 SPA Netball season has got off to what can only be described as an emphatic start with teams across all five year groups recording outstanding victories over local school rivals.
Performances of note include our Year 11 netball girls beating St Thomas More 35 – 3, placing them at the top of the Greenwich Schools’ League table having won all of their league games to date. The girls have displayed wonderful team and individual performances with Antonia Adu, Shana Ajufo and Osayande Eghaghe all receiving ‘player of the match’ accolades this season so far. The girls also recorded a brilliant 11 – 8 victory over Bexley league champions Townley Grammar School. Our Year 11 Netball girls hope to continue what is now almost a five year unbeaten run in all Greenwich Schools’ Netball fixtures as they soon conclude their netball playing careers at SPA with their final league and tournament fixtures still to play in the New Year. We wish the girls every success as they aim to achieve this fantastic feat.

Our Year 9 Netball girls are not to be outshone either having put in solid performances in all of their U14 Kent Netball Tournament matches this season as they continue to grow and develop as a squad. Continuing to build upon their performances in training and competition, the Year 9 girls recently played their first Greenwich Schools’ League fixture of the season when they faced Harris Academy Greenwich away from home. Having been beaten by this Harris team last season the girls have worked exceptionally hard to ensure that their performance was much improved when they faced this same team this season. In what was a hard fought game full of skill, determination and teamwork displayed by both teams throughout, this time round it was our SPA Year 9 girls who emerged victorious, recording a wonderful 20 – 16 win. The girls hope to continue this winning streak as they embark on their remaining league fixtures this season.
Representing SPA for the first time our Year 7 girls faced St Thomas More in their first ever Greenwich Schools’ Netball League fixture. Having put lots of time and effort into training as a team, the girls were extremely keen and eager to begin their competitive netball playing careers at SPA. Not only did the girls display magnificent individual and team performances on the day but they also managed to record their very first win as an SPA Netball team, beating St Thomas More with a score line of 19 – 1. This was a fantastic result for our determined and committed group of Year 7 players who we wish continued success as a team in all of their future netball fixtures as ambassadors of SPA.
Well done to all St Paul’s Academy Netball players on your continued dedication to your sport and consistent high level performances.
