The purpose of this visit was to learn more about how buildings are constructed and to see the different stages of construction in real life. It was a great opportunity to understand the materials used and how workers follow safety rules on-site. Moreover, the information taught is very beneficial for our GCSE exam in May 2025.
When we arrived, Amber gave us a briefing about the project. She explained what the building was for, how long it would take to finish, and what work was being done at the moment. We saw different areas of the site, including places where work had just started and others where the building was almost done.
During the visit, we also had the opportunity to listen to expert speakers, including engineers and architects, who explained their roles in the project. They talked about how they design buildings, choose materials, and ensure safety on-site. They also shared valuable career advice and answered our questions about the construction industry. Their insights helped us understand the teamwork and planning required for a successful construction project. The expert speakers helped us understand the different careers available in construction and the skills needed for each role.
One of the most interesting parts of the visit was learning about different career paths in the construction industry. The expert speakers explained the various roles available, such as:
Architects, who design buildings and ensure they are functional and visually appealing.
Civil Engineers, who oversee structural integrity and site development.
Construction Managers, who coordinate projects and ensure they are completed on time and within budget.
Electricians and Plumbers, who handle essential utilities in buildings.
Quantity Surveyors, who estimate costs and manage financial aspects of construction projects.
Skilled tradespeople, including bricklayers, carpenters, and machine operators, who play hands-on roles in building construction.
They emphasised that careers in construction require a mix of education, experience, and practical skills. They also highlighted apprenticeship programs and university degrees that can lead to various opportunities in the field.
In conclusion, the site visit was very interesting and educational. It helped me see how construction works in real life, and I now understand how important materials and safety are in building projects. I think more visits like this would help students learn better.
